In-depth Anti-virus - McAfee SMG is based on the same anti-virus technology as the award-winning desktop product. The heart of McAfee anti-virus protection is an engine that blocks both known and unknown viruses. This protects you against zero-day attacks and new virus threats. McAfee SMG scans all inbound and outbound messaging traffic that use SMTP and POP3 protocols

Advanced e-mail content filtering - What if you could protect against inappropriate content coming into your network, as well as guard against sensitive information leaving your network, such as trade secrets, financial data or the like? McAfee SMG's built-in e-mail content filtering can do both. With lexical scanning of e-mails and more than 300 types of attachments, McAfee SMG can block or modify messages that contain specific words or phrases that violate a content rule.

Anti-Spam & Anti-Phishing - McAfee SMG includes a built-in anti-spam module (licensed separately) that utilises multiple highly sophisticated techniques to detect and block spam and phishing attacks. Advances in McAfee technology and processes deliver streaming updates every 10 minutes to ensure at least 95 percent effectiveness. Spam-blocking technologies include:

The 3300 appliance scans SMTP traffic at 210,000 messages per hour with anti-virus configured. By the use of built-in load sharing you can take advantage of multiple appliances when greater performance is required. If your organisation is smaller (under 1,000 employees), consider using McAfee Secure Internet Gateway which is optimised for small and medium-sized businesses.
